Last weekend, a group of three men were changing a car tire on the shoulder of the Dallas North Tollway when they were struck and killed by a vehicle. The suspect’s 12-year-old son was left behind at the scene when the suspect fled.
Authorities say the suspect drove a black 2013 Chevy Silverado and the fatal incident happened early Sunday. A man and woman in the pulled-over vehicle were also reportedly injured.
Details of the fatal crash
The hit and run occurred on the 3200 block of the LBJ Freeway in Dallas, Texas at around 3:30 a.m. Three men were attempting to change the flat tire on a Toyota RAV4 when they were struck and killed.
The driver of the Silverado struck the three men as well as the disabled vehicle. A woman inside the Toyota was severely injured. Police believe that the suspect fled the scene on foot.
Victims in the hit and run accident
The three men who were outside of the Toyota were pronounced dead on the scene. They were identified as David Nguyen, 23, Christopher Pham, 22, and Hieu Minh Doan, 22, who has recently graduated from the University of Texas and earned a degree in biomedical engineering.
Another man inside the Toyota was taken to the hospital by medics for unknown injuries.
Penalty for a hit and run
Police say that if the suspect is caught, they will face charges of manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid.
In Texas, manslaughter is a second-degree felony. If convicted, the sentence is between two and twenty years in state prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000.
